We have trained over 40,000 children to cycle safely in Bikeability courses in schools across London. Cycling is a life skill that encourages active travel, healthy living and confident cyclng on road. As well as offering National Standards Bikeability training we can deliver Bikeability Plus which includes services such as a Bicycle Bus and after school clubs.
A typical school delivery model is for a course to be run over 4 or 5 weeks (one day a week for Year 5 & 6 students). The course takes trainees through the Bikeability syllabus (the National Standard for cycle training) and is designed to give trainees who can already ride an introduction to on-road cycling. Two cycling instructors teach the course - typically training small groups in 1.5-2 hour sessions. Additional training on the day may include a complete beginner lesson and a parent/teacher advice sessions. Before the course starts all bikes are checked to ensure they are roadworthy.
Other delivery models include a week long delivery of cycle training or training during holiday time. We can deliver Cycling Schools projects where an instructor is embedded in a school for the whole year offering a range of services to different year groups and to the school community or offer a range of Bikeability Plus modules.
